All routine ingredients are as clean as it gets. If we wouldn't put it on our kids, you won't find it in routine! You find the ingredients under each individual product page.

With routine, less is more. We suggest trying a pea sized amount as this is adequate for the majority of people. Try this amount and increase or decrease based on how it works for you.

Routine’s baking soda free deodorant options!

Of course, we have to give our good pal baking soda credit. It is an amazing natural product, deodorizer and the star of our original well-loved formulas (which will always be available).

The thing is, baking soda is alkaline and for some people, at certain times, it can throw off their pH balance, in turn causing skin sensitives. This is why, for our friends with sensitive skin, we have created four deodorants (The Curator, and baking soda free: Sexy Sadie, Johnny’s Cash, Blackberry Betty) in which baking soda is replaced with dietary magnesium – a mineral that if you’re not getting enough of, can cause your sweat to smell worse!

As it happens, topically, magnesium works like a charm and makes our baking soda free formula just as effective as the original routine. Another benefit of magnesium: it aids in relaxing the armpits, which in turn, fends off those woeful stress sweats! SUPERSTAR is also for sensitive skin with only a touch of baking soda for added deodorizing- just enough to keep most sensitive skinned people from getting irritation. It contains activated charcoal to detoxify and neutralize pH, magnesium to reduce stress sweats, and prebiotics to keep your skin healthy.

We recommend SUPERSTAR or Like a Boss!

Superstar combines dietary magnesium, activated charcoal, prebiotics, and just a touch of baking soda (a dose so low it does not cause irritation in sensitive skin types).

Like a Boss has the highest concentration of baking soda of all our deodorants and is therefore not recommended for folks with sensitive skin.

All our formulas contain kaolin clay - which naturally absorbs sweat. You will still sweat a little as the clay is not bioavailable so it absorbs sweat topically, not into your body, but we think this is healthy!

After several weeks of regularly using natural deodorant, people often find they begin to sweat less. All this being said, heavy sweaters seem to love our SUPERSTAR scent the most!

Blackberry Betty, Sweet Jane and Bonnie n Clyde (unscented) were formulated for pregnant and breastfeeding women, as they contain no essential oils. They are instead scented with natural and organic (and even edible!) flavour oils.

While we believe our other scents are safe as all ingredients are researched, properly diluted and not in a therapeutic dose range, we recommend pregnant and breastfeeding women contact their primary care provider before using any herb or essential oil.

While only our shampoos contain a wheat derivative ingredient (wheat amino acids, derived from gluten), we cannot guarantee that there is no cross-contamination with gluten-containing ingredients during processing of our other products.

Nope, no palm oil or derivatives in any of our products!

Several of our products are scented with organic, natural and delicious (they are even edible!) flavour oils.

Our flavour oils come from Nature’s Flavors based out of California, their website has great information: www.naturesflavors.com. These oils are the same products organic candies are flavoured with.

Yes! Bonnie n Clyde (cream deodorant) is unscented.

The reason we don’t make an unscented baking soda free deodorant, is because the b.s. free formula needs the support of antibacterial essential oils to make an effective baking soda free deodorant. We have tested unscented baking soda free deodorant, and it just doesn’t make the cut for our effective routine lineup. We will however, continue to experimenting with more natural ingredients to create the ultimate baking soda free unscented deodorant!

Despite being an incredible natural ingredient that is a powerhouse at absorbing odors, baking soda is more alkaline than our bodies so in rare instances it can throw off pH balance in some people.  Our classic formulas do have reduced baking soda levels so we find 9/10 baking soda sensitive people are able to use our classic formulas. 

No, we only use non-gmo cornstarch!

Different municipalities/provinces/states have different recycling capabilities - some will recycle all glass containers, some will only recycle those that contained food etc. You only really know if you ask your municipality directly. Even in Routine’s home town Calgary, you wouldn’t know our deodorant jars are allowed in the blue bin if you just had a quick look on the city’s website! But PS: They are! Some things, like plastic pumps and small plastic containers, are rarely recyclable in curbside recycling systems, and putting them there may wreck havoc on the recycling stream.

As we don't want our packaging to end up in landfills, the great news is we have teamed up with some of our vendors to place collection bins at their locations! The packaging is recycled into raw materials that are sold back to manufacturers.

• TerraCycle bins collecting Routine packaging only 

Pact Collective is working towards (whenever possible) creating new beauty packaging from the old packaging, closing the loop of the beauty industry.

TerraCycle’s end products include outdoor furniture and decking, plastic shipping pallets, watering cans, storage containers and bins, tubes for construction applications, flooring tiles, playground surface covers and athletic fields, and much more.
